Crossing The Empty Quarter

In 1930 an Omani, Sheikh Saleh bin Kalu,, and an Englishman, Bertram Thomas, made the first recorded crossing of the Rub Al Khali, the Empty Quarter. Their achievement made headlines around the world. Now two Omanis and a Briton want to recreate that historic journey across six hundred thousand square kilometres of arid desert. From Salalah in southern Oman they will cross mountains and river beds to reach the desert. Then they must cross a vast wilderness to reach Doha in Qatar. Three men against the largest sand desert in the world. Their terrifying challenge - to cross one of the most dangerous places on earth. If they make it they’ll be the first for nearly 90 years. But can they control their camels and can they make it over the giant dunes? Or will injury and sickness defeat them?
